Dive Drill with Marshfield Fire – Hall Bog (Photo’s by Firefighter Steve Falconer) - October 14, 2012

On Sunday, the Carver Fire and Marshfield Fire Dive Teams joined forces for a combined DiveTraining exercise at our dive pond in north Carver.  Overall about 25 divers and support personnel participated in the morning long training session that encompassed three different and certainly unique dive scenarios.  The first scenario utilized our Rescue Boat (Marine 1) to tow two divers, at the same time, while swimming underwater, searching for hidden pumpkins.  This is actually how divers would search for a person that was missing under the water in a real life rescue.  The second scenario had divers take an above water compass reading, then submerge under water, and take off swimming in that direction to hopefully find their victim (you guessed it, another pumpkin). The final scenario was an underwater pumpkin carving contest, where all divers had to gather all the found pumpkins from the morning scenarios, and work as one giant team, while underwater, and carve their best Halloween design.  This simple exercise helps to develop underwater dexterity skills while working in the cold water. The drill was a huge success both in developing diver and support personnel skills, but also in developing comrade with another Plymouth County Dive Team. (Photo’s by Firefighter Steve Falconer)
