** SOME LIKE IT HOT** Carver Firefighters honed their fire attack skills over a two day period utilizing the Department of Fire Services Mobile Live Fire Training Unit, here at our Headquarters Fire Station. The MTU is essentially a “burn house” on wheels which enables local delivery of specialized training, removing the cumbersome travel burden of getting our Firefighters to the Academy in Stow. The simulator is essentially an easy-bake oven fed by propane, that when combined with the on-board smoke machine, produces fire, heat, and visibility conditions that are as close to the real thing as you can get from a training exercise while being afforded all of the SAFETY provisions of the simulator. The simulator is manipulated by the Academy crew in a control room where they can monitor the progress of the fire attack Team and adjust the “environment” on the fly. It is definitely a very effective training prop. You can see from the photos below that this thing is no joke! TEAMWORK was emphasis throughout the weekend as over 25 Firefighters rotated through the live fire scenarios. A lot of tired, but smiling faces when all was said and done… Our thanks to the DFS Team for bringing this great training opportunity to Carver Fire! (Photo’s by Deputy Eric Germaine)
