Breakfast with Santa is a special event for kids big and small. After a great breakfast cooked by our Firefighter elves (Gillis and Bellando), the kids made snowman decorations (a big thank you to Jan Santos), while awaiting the arrival of that special guy. All the little kids and even a few big kids receive a gift and a chance to visit with Santa. The holidays are a time for families and the Carver Fire Department is in reality an...
Health and Safety Officer, Captain Bob Telless, designed another great driving drill taking place over two weekend days. From all accounts, our annual CFD sanctioned scavenger hunt was once again a huge success! This was a competitive training exercise we termed a scavenger hunt. The goal of the event/exercise has always been geared to mixing training, competitiveness, a fun time and great prizes into a series of six training exercises that would involve CFD equipment, apparatus and the skills of our Firefighters. Approximately 40 Firefighters participated in the event. Instead of a race to the end, this year...

** SOME LIKE IT HOT** Carver Firefighters honed their fire attack skills over a two day period utilizing the Department of Fire Services Mobile Live Fire Training Unit, here at our Headquarters Fire Station. The MTU is essentially a “burn house” on wheels which enables local delivery of specialized training, removing the cumbersome travel burden of getting our Firefighters to the Academy in Stow. The simulator is essentially an easy-bake oven fed by propane, that when combined with the on-board...
Amazing to see the Pride our Firefighters take in their apparatus! This year, our annual apparatus competition focused on our three Front Line Engines that are 19, 20 and 21 years of age. The winner of this year’s competition was Engine 3, detailed by Company 3. Crews working on Engine 1 and 2 weren’t that far behind. On the last Sunday in June, the Carver Firefighters Association holds it’s annual clambake. The event is sold out every year and the money raised funds scholarships and other civic commitments. A big tip of the helmet to our Firefighters and members of the Carver High School Student Council who...
Company 1 went back to basics in their well designed MVA entrapment drill. Instead of actual scenarios, which is the norm for us, firelighters practiced various techniques, cuts and maneuvers using different rescue tools. This was a confidence building drill that concentrated on the basics. (Photo's by Firefighter Steve Falconer)
Deputy Germaine designed an interesting Officer Management Drill utilizing a realistic fire scenario program we discovered on-line. The program allows you to take photographs of buildings or items within your community from all angles, add realistic changing smoke and fire conditions and assemble them into a movie like fire scenario that can be stopped or progressed as you wish. At our Drill, we conducted two scenarios, one of a commercial establishment in South Carver and one at a residential home...
In between fire calls, we also honored our promise to a young girl and her family, while continuing the awareness of the Zach Kane Fund. At the Taste of Carver 2 event held back in March, we as a Fire Department, committed to raffling a ride to school in a fire truck to the lucky winner. This was among many other raffles all geared to raising money to help Zach in his fight with cancer. Who knew our raffle item...

When three well thought of members of the department hang up their helmets for the last time, a party seems quite appropriate. Words of praise, thoughtful gifts, a lot of ribbing and a great meal among friends made for a very special night. Wide grins, firm handshakes from well wishers and yes, a tear or two was shed. When you think of the 96 total years of service to the community by these three, just try and imagine for a...

The Class of 2015 gets out of the classroom and into our new maze and smokehouse. This gives a really new perspective to trying to function in all that gear and breathing apparatus. It also starts building the team concept which is so imperative in firefighting operations. Weather conditions didn’t help our new Firefighters or Instructors as the temperature was only 5 degrees. (Photo’s by Retired Fire Chief, Bill Harriman)
