While responding to over 70 actual Fire Emergencies throughout the Blizzard, Company’s 1, 2 and 3 were dispatched to a structure Fire on Murdock Street. Along with heavy winds, snow and 12 degrees temperature, firefighters encounter heavy, heavy fire and smoke conditions on arrival. Over 50 Firefighters from Carver, Middleboro, Plympton, Lakeville, Plymouth and Kingston battled the fire for 4 hours during the extreme snow conditions. Firefighters waded through 2 foot snow drifts, one lane roadways, solid ice conditions, freezing hand lines and a smoke condition so thick on the exterior of the house that you could not see the person next to you, when you stepped of the Engine. Overall, 7 Engines, 2 Rescue Trucks, 4 Tankers and 2 Brush Breakers were utilized. A Gatra Bus and our Rescue 2 were brought into the scene to help keep firefighters warm and provide some hot refreshments. There were no injuries to any firefighters and the cause of the fire appears to be related to a portable generator. (Photo’s by Firefighter Joe Kirk)
