Carver Firefighters worked with the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team to rescue a horse that was stuck in a cranberry bog ditch off of Center Street in North Carver. A coordinated Water Rescue Drill utilizing the Dive Team and Firefighters from Company 3 was implemented and designed by Fire Captain Matt Sears. Carver Fire divers went to work on Sunday morning with a mission in mind. The goal was to retrieve our submerged dive car prop, in order to perform some needed repairs. Our dive prop was built by Carver Fire Divers back in 2005 and submerged in a private pond in North Carver to be used for training evolutions. Company 3 Officers went back to basics in designing their March drill. Firefighters utilized the Training Facilities Underground Hydrant System to practice pumping water from one Engine company to another. Basic techniques such as hydrant assist valve setup, maintaining proper pump reassures, master stream operations and drafting out of a portable pool were retaught. Thinking out of the box, our Dive Team rented the indoor "Percy Pool", located in the Town of Duxbury, to refresh on basic underwater skills. The indoor dive was opened up to all Carver Firefighters that might be interested in becoming a future diver on the team. This week our new Firefighters where given a great course on Rapid Intervention by our Recruit Trainers. Each firefighter got a chance to practice wall breaching, searching with ropes, learning how to use their buddy breathing equipment and practice realistic self rescue techniques that may need to be used in the event a firefighter becomes trapped or disoriented. Our Recruit Training Team spent the week teaching our newest firefighters Fire Hoses and Streams, Fire Control and Ventilation techniques. Firefighters got a chance to practice cutting ventilation holes in our roof prop, extinguishing repeated dumpster fires and practice hydraulic ventilation in our search and rescue building. Instructors also taught proper hose rolls, how to properly pack and unload our water supply and attack lines and correct fire stream patterns. Overall, our new firefighters are doing great! Firefighters were dispatched to a reported Structure Fire on West Street near the center of Town. On arrival, heavy smoke was coming from the chimney and a light smoke condition was reported coming from the attic area of a wood frame residence. Once Firefighters got inside the structure, it was apparent that crews were dealing with a Chimney Fire. Firefighters from Company's 1 and 3, utilizing Engine 1, Engine 3, Rescue 1 and Breaker 28 responded to a motor vehicle accident with a person trapped in the vehicle in the Wareham Street and Deer Hill Lane area of South Carver. While still working signification storm incidents, Company's 1, 2 and 3 were dispatched to another reported building fire on Rickard Street in our North Carver District. On arrival, C1 (Command) reported a moderate smoke condition coming from the buildings eves. A crew from Engine 2, along with Deputy Germaine quickly opened up an inner wall by the fireplace finding a heavy fire condition.
