On Monday, August 9 at 8:33 pm, Company 3 responded to a request from the Police Department to check the area of Sampson’s Pond where a canoe was found floating. Deputy Chief Mark Weston established a Command Post on Lakeview Street and coordinated the search, assisted by Environmental Police Officer Akins. The Fire Department boat was launched and checked the area while police and firefighters went door to door to the cottages on the pond seeking information. Within 30 minutes it was determined that the canoe had floated away from the beach of one of the cottages. (Photo’s by Firefighter Gerry Farquharson)
