Car Fire – Indian Street - December 14, 2004

Just about the time that most were getting ready to watch the 11 o'clock news or perhaps were in a sound sleep on a cold December night, Company 3 was rolling out of bed for car fire on Indian Street. MVA – Meadow Street - November 20, 2004

Chimney Fire Drill – Co. 3 - November 14, 2004

It's that time of year again. Company 3 spends some time at the Training Center reviewing and practicing chimney fire procedures. With the price of oil going up, its fair to assume that the number of chimney fires will also rise as people stoke up the wood stoves to keep warm. As always, we will be ready. Car Fire – Federal Road - November 6, 2004

Wareham Engine 1 and Carver Engine 3 go to work on a BMW and a small area of woods on Federal Road. Both departments received calls on the Saturday night fire in the vicinity of the Town line. Chaplain Merritt’s Surprise Party – United Parish - October 31, 2004

On October 31, 2004 approximately 100 friends from both Carver and Falmouth parishes surprised Rev. Robert Merritt with a celebration of his 50 years in the ministry. They were all inside the United Parish Hall across from Station 1 in Carver, Rev. Merritt had arrived and was mingling with his well wishers, when the Carver Fire Department went into action. Company 3 Hazmat Drill – Federal Road - October 24, 2004

Members of Company 3 visited the landfill on Federal Road, which is operated by American Ref-Fuel as part of their annual hazardous materials training. FF Matt Sears of Company 3, who is employed by American Ref-Fuel as an environmental engineer, conducted the training. Proper methods of recognizing, identifying, and dealing with hazardous materials using resources available to first arriving fire units were practiced and critiqued. Fire Prevention Week “Open House” – Carver Fire Department Training Facility - October 9, 2004

This year instead of Open House at the 3 fire stations, an Open House was held at the Fire Department Training Center. Members of the Fire Prevention Team had Fire department equipment and training aids on display for children and adults. Some interactive props allowed children to hold the hose, squirt the nozzle, and knock over a target. S.A.F.E. House Presentation – Carver Primary School - October 8, 2004

Members of the CFD Fire Prevention Team interacted with over 600 students at the Gov. John Carver School. The children were acquainted with Firefighter tools of the trade, the sight and sound of Firefighters in protective clothing wearing breathing apparatus and each got to see the inside of Engine 1. They then entered the Plymouth County Student Awareness Fire Education House and were taught about calling 9-1-1, staying low in smoke, and other fire safety principles that could save lives....

MVA Rollover – Federal Road - September 27, 2004

On September 27, 2004 Company 3 handled a tractor trailer rollover on Federal Road. Some minor diesel fuel, motor oil and hydraulic leaks were attended to and Engine 3 stood by until the tractor and trailer were righted. Despite the best efforts of the dedicated team of Firefighters on scene, the entire load contained in the trailer was declared a total loss and hauled off to a local landfill. MVA – Cranberry Road - September 25, 2004

At 22:48 hours on 9/25/04, Company's 1 & 3 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with a person trapped on Cranberry Road. Under the direction of Lt. Jon Fortier, members quickly went to work with the Jaws of Life, while Carver EMS personnel attended to the victim. By 23:25 hours the patient had been extricated, packaged and was off the ground in a Boston Med Flight Helicopter en route to the Mass. General Hospital. (Photo's by Firefighter William Piper)

Old Timers Night – Carver Sportsman’s Club - September 13, 2004

On Sept. 13, 2004 the Carver Firefighters Association held it's 2nd annual "Old Timers Night". Firefighter Bob Middendorf organized the tribute to members who have served in excess of 25 years. Dryer Fire – Center Street - August 18, 2004

On August 18, 2004 at 7:48 am Companies 1 and 2 were dispatched to a dryer fire at 153 Center Street. C3 (DFC Craig Weston) arrived first, reported "smoke showin" and established Command. Arriving moments later was Engine 1, Engine 2, Tanker 1 and Rescue 1. Engine 1 crew advanced a 1.75" line in the front door, extinguished the fire in the dryer, and power vented using the 1.75" line. MVA – Tremont Street - August 15, 2004

On Sunday, August 15 at 10:27 pm, Companies 1 & 3 responded to an MVA rollover with someone possibly trapped in the vehicle on Tremont Street in the area of Ericksons Ice Cream Stand. Captain Mike Nye of Company 3 was first to arrive and reported the occupant was out of the vehicle. Water Search – Sampson’s Pond - August 9, 2004

On Monday, August 9 at 8:33 pm, Company 3 responded to a request from the Police Department to check the area of Sampson's Pond where a canoe was found floating. Deputy Chief Mark Weston established a Command Post on Lakeview Street and coordinated the search, assisted by Environmental Police Officer Akins. Company 3 Dive Drill – Sampson’s Pond - August 8, 2004

Firefighters from Company 3 participated in a Dive Drill with the Carver Fire Dive Team on Sampson's Pond. Firefighters were re-familiarized with all facets of a possible dive rescue. National Night Out – Carver Elementary School - August 4, 2004

National Night Out - Firefighters team up with the Carver PD to put on a show of equipment for the young adults of Carver. Engine 1, Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 were on hand and provided lighting for the event. A number of outside agency's were on hand to compliment the Carver resources. Annual Truck Competition – Carver Station 1 - August 2, 2004

Annual Truck Competition - The second annual truck inspection competition was held on August 2, 2004. Organized by FF Bob Middendorf, the event challenges the 3 Firefighting Company's to have the cleanest Engine. The trucks are judged for all facets of interior and exterior appearance. Deputy’s Drill – Carver Fire Department Training Facility - July 25, 2004

All 3 Company's participate in quarterly Deputy drills orchestrated by DFC Mark Weston. This drill required that each FF go through 4 different stations. Working as teams, FF's had to remove a "victim" who was trapped by a fallen beam in a smoke filled building, rescue a downed firefighter in the maze building, and rescue a victim from inside a large steel tank through an 18" opening. Structure Fire – Plymouth Street - July 7, 2004

Company 2 responded with Engine 2 and Engine 4 to a Fire Alarm call on Plymouth Street. Upon arrival smoke was showing from the rear of the structure. The incident was immediately upgraded to a Structure Fire response, dispatching Company's 1, 2 and 3. The fire was quickly located in the basement with extension to a rear exterior wall. Structure Fire – Major Impact Collision Specialists - June 24, 2004

On 6/23/04 all 3 Stations were dispatched to a reported building fire at Major Impact Auto Body on Main Street. Upon arrival it was determined that a fire in a downdraft paint booth ventilation system had been extinguished by employees of the shop. Company 3 Supper – Caver Sportsman’s Club - June 6, 2004

On Monday June 7, 2004 a very special company supper was held at the Carver Sportsman's Club. Rev. Robert Merritt, our Fire Department Chaplain planned and coordinated a program on dealing with stress for EMT's, Police Officers, Dispatchers, and Firefighters. Live Fire Training – Barnstable Burn Building - June 6, 2004

On Sunday 6/6/04 twenty four CFD Officers and Firefighters left Carver at 6:00 am for the Barnstable County Fire Training Academy in Hyannis. Upon arrival, they proceeded to battle numerous live fires in a state of the art "burn building". Scenarios such as cellar fires, one room, two room, and 3 room fires were practiced repeatedly by the crews. Annual Clambake - June 1, 2004

On the last Sunday in June, the Carver Firefighters Association holds it's annual clambake. The event is sold out every year and the money raised funds scholarships and other civic commitments. Dive Drill – Sampson’s Pond - May 23, 2004

Members of the Carver Fire Department Dive Team participate in a Dive Drill on Sampson's Pond. The objective of the drill was to practice using a newly designed Diver tow bar. The dive boat pulls the new tow bar, allowing three divers to search evenly spaced at a slow speed underwater.

Car Fire – Main Street - May 22, 2004

Firefighters from Company 1 extinguish a van fire at 12:54 am in front of the Cumberland Farms Plaza on Main Street. It was determined that the driver of the vehicle fell asleep, veering off the road, running over a metal sign, which ignited the fire. The fire resulted in no injuries to the driver or firefighters.

Brush Fire – 22 Silva Street - April 30, 2004

Co. 1 & 2 responded to a roadside fire on Silva Street. C2 got in first and knocked it down with 2-1/2 gallon extinguisher. 27 mopped it up while 29 remained in service. Retired Chief Homer Weston was riding with grandson (C3) Craig. It is safe to assume that the excitement of fighting brush fires never leaves your blood the way Homer was smiling.

Brush Fire – Purchase Street - April 17, 2004

Company's 1 and 2 responded to a reported brush fire with a shed fully involved. Units made quick work of bringing the fire under control, thereby saving a garage. Breakers 27 and 29 along with Engine 2 and Tanker 1 handled the fire. Approximately 1/3 of an acre burned along with a shed containing a lawn tractor and snow blower. A camper trailer and a door on the garage sustained damage also.

Recruit Training – Carver Fire Department Training Facility - March 20, 2004

Carver Fire Recruit Trainers administer a practical midterm to 3 new Carver Fire Recruits. The Carver Fire Department is in the process of training 3 new firefighters for year 2004. New Carver firefighters are required to pass a medical physical, Physical Abilities Test, attend a 10 week in-house Firefighter I training course, which is taught by certified Carver Fire Instructors. This is followed by an 8-week station-training course.

Structure Fire – Rochester Road - February 6, 2004

At 6:53 am on Friday February 6,2004, the Carver Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the Carver - Middleboro town line. Upon arrival DFC Craig Weston reported a working fire in a 1 1/2 story dwelling that was actually in the Town of Middleboro. Heavy fire conditions were noted in the basement and first floor with extension to the second floor.

MVA – High Street - February 3, 2004

At 11:03 am on a Tuesday morning the Carver Fire Department dispatched Stations 1 and 2 to a single car MVA with a person trapped underneath the car on High Street in the Northern section of Town. Firefighters from Engine 2 and Rescue 1 working under the direction of DFC Mark Weston used high pressure air bags to lift the vehicle off of the victim.
