Deputy Germaine, our Officer staff and some really good friends of CFD organized our annual Brush Fire Drill at the Plymouth/ Carver Airport this past Sunday. This year the drill was the largest ever with 18 communities, about 170+ Firefighters utilizing 24 Bursh Breakers and numerous UTVs. The 2 mile long off road course allows Officers/Firefighters to practice driving the large Brush Breakers and smaller Forestry Units under simulated wildfire conditions, sharpening their driving techniques. Firefighters operating on the rear of the apparatus practiced extinguishing techniques, learning the do and don’ts of fighting large wildfires. The off road course included a winch course taught by Lieutenant Jesse Boyle and a hand line target station monitored by Retired Chief Bill Harriman. Those waiting to get on a Breaker attended a chain saw course taught by Firefighter Bill Garnett, a Wildfire classroom course taught by Captain Eric Weston and a UTV driving coarse taught by Dive master White, Assistant Dive-master Doherty and Firefighters Steve Blanchard and Rick Leopardi. Each Town got numerous chances to drive their equipment on the course. After the drill was complete all were treated to a cookout of hot dogs and hamburgers. Overall the drill was a huge success, with everyone learning something and best of all their were no major breakdowns of breakers and no injuries! (Photo’s by Firefighter Steve Falconer)
