Special Announcement: Fire Chief Craig Weston has announced his plans to retire after more than 20 years as Chief of Department.
On Tuesday February 3, 2026, the Carver Selectboard unanimously voted to appoint Deputy Eric Germaine to the position of Fire Chief.
Chief Weston has served Carver for 38 years, joining the department in 1988. He had served as Lieutenant and was the town’s first full time Deputy Chief prior to being appointed to Fire Chief in 2005.
Deputy Germaine has served Carver for 35 years, having joined in 1991. He had served as Lieutenant and Captain prior to being appointed as Deputy Chief in 2006.
In a display of solidarity during the Selectboard meeting, Deputy Germaine was surrounded by friends, family, and dozens of Carver Firefighters including retired Fire Chief Dana Harriman. Chief Weston will continue to serve as Fire Chief to ensure a smooth transition, with a final work day of September 27, 2026.
During Chief Weston’s leadership tenure, the department has achieved tremendous success. CFD is an ISO Class 2 Department, earned with the contributions of all our members.
Every station, and each piece of apparatus and equipment has been either replaced or refurbished. We have built a new Fire Headquarters, Training Facility, and Dispatch Center. Every piece of radio equipment has been upgraded and new receiving sites have been brought online. Our team of 85 on-call firefighters, officers, and dispatchers continue to achieve a response time of just over 5 minutes while averaging over 20 firefighters responding during daytime hours.
Thank you to the Carver Selectboard for recognizing a well designed succession plan, 20 years in the making.
