Car Fire – Wareham Street - December 2, 2011

Company 3 responded with Engine 3 and Breaker 28 to a reported car fire in the Wareham Street area of South Carver. Deputy Germaine, first on scene, established Command, reporting a car fully involved with leaking fuel tank. Firefighter’s advanced a hose line to extinguish the fire only to discover that the engine, which had a high magnesium content, combined with the leaking fuel tank, made extinguishment of the fire a difficult and dangerous task. The fire was brought under control after about 10 minutes with no injuries to any firefighters. One important lesson learned was to never let your guard down and always expect the unexpected.
