Carver Fire Safety Officer, Bob Telless successfully put together a DOT Driving exercise, for all CFD Freighters, held at our new Training Facility. Captain Telless worked very hard in putting together a classroom presentation, which included a driving video, PowerPoint training lecture and practical driving stations, designed according to DOT standards. Each driving station was supervised by an Officer or a senior Firefighter, calculating points and keeping time. Firefighters used an Engine, Breaker, Rescue, Car 3 with a trailer to navigate the tight courses, testing skills for backing up, responding to highway incidents, three point turns, switching lanes and backing into an alley. Orange cones were used to indicate each stations boundary’s and points were deducted if a piece of apparatus hit a cone. A bonus station on Firefighter CPR was designed in the course this year. Taught by Firefighter Mark Durling, Firefighters were taught down and dirty CPR techniques help a firefighter that was in severe distress. Not only does this important training make all CFD Officers and Firefighter safer and better driver operators, but the drill also helps the town receive insurance credits.
