Carver Fire Stations 1, 2, and 3 responded to a reported structure fire in our North Carver District.  Multiple 911 calls reported the house as fully involved.  A neighbor adjacent to the home on fire quickly ran over to the house and alerted the homeowners still inside that their house was on fire.  Due to their quick actions, the family and a dog were able to quickly evacuate the home.  First arriving Engine Companies went to work extinguishing heavy fire...

Firefighters worked a very stubborn fire at the COVANTA landfill in South Carver this past weekend.  First reported as a possible heavy equipment fire, turned out to be a 1/4 acre, very deep seated fire on the top of the landfill.  Access to the fire was very difficult, as the steep roadway was unfinished and blocked with large amounts of trash.  Firefighters had to carry in a supply line and attack fire hoses to extinguish the fire.  A large excavator...

Firefighters from Company’s 1 and 3 worked a Brush Fire off of Wareham Street in South Carver earlier in the week.  A downed power line sparked the fire, which had extended to about ½ acre of brush and a small sauna building on arrival.  Crews on Brush Breakers 27 and 28 along with Tanker 1 worked the fire incident, while an additional Breaker 26 and Engine 3 were staged if additional resources were needed.  (Photo’s by Tyler Reardon)

Our new Recruit Firefighters got a special treat, with our Instructors taking them on a bonus class on Brush Breaker Training.  Instructors utilized Brush Breakers 26 and 27 and headed to our brush breaker training grounds at the Plymouth Airport.  Our recruits were taught how to operate on the back of a brush Breaker, extinguishing simulated wildfires and operating hand lines.  Seems like everyone was all smiles when they returned! This week our new Firefighters were given a great course on Rapid Intervention and Thermal Imaging by our Recruit Trainers.  Each firefighter got a chance to practice working as a coordinated TEAM, learning how to use their buddy breathing equipment and practice realistic self-rescue techniques that may need to be used in the event a firefighter becomes trapped or disoriented. This week our new Firefighters were given a great course on Rapid Intervention and Thermal Imaging by our Recruit Trainers.  Each firefighter got a chance to practice working as a coordinated TEAM, learning how to use their buddy breathing equipment and practice realistic self-rescue techniques that may need to be used in the event a firefighter becomes trapped or disoriented. Fire Company’s 1, 2 and 3 were dispatched to a reported permit fire that had extended to a rear deck and house.  Before the arrival of the engine Company’s, Firefighters that lived nearby assisted the homeowner with pressurized water extinguishers, making a quick knock down of the fire and saving the structure.  There was only minimal damage to both the home and deck.  (Photo’s by Retired Firefighter, Steve Blanchard)

Fire Company’s 1 and 2, utilizing Brush Breakers 27 and 29, worked a small permit fire that extended into the wood line and around some motor vehicles.  The fire was quickly contained to a ¼ acre. (Photo’s by Retired Fire Chief, Bill Harriman)

Our new Recruit Firefighters conducted First Responder and CPR Training taught by Instructors Captain Bob Telless and Captain Frank Nye.

Recruit Training Class #11 was Ladders and Ventilation (practical).  During this practical course our new Firefighters are taught different ladder raises and carries by our experienced group of Recruit Trainers.  The class is then split into two groups, with half practicing ladders and the other half concentrating on hydraulic, mechanical, and roof ventilation using our training building and one of the roof cut props. At 4:18pm, Fire Company’s 1, 2 and 3 responded to a reported House Fire on North Main Street.  On arrival, heavy Fire was reported from a 1 ½ residential home with one person self-evacuated and in distress and reporting up to 5 more occupants trapped inside.  Chief Officers and arriving Engine Companies quickly went into a rescue mode of operation, quickly knocking down the main fire, while conducting a primary search of the residence.  As additional Engine Company’s arrived, secondary...

Fire Company's 1 and 3 were dispatched to a reported Car Fire off of Copper Lantern Lane in our District 3.  On arrival, multiple vehicles were on fire with possible extension into a condo unit.  Company 3 Firefighters made a great stop containing the fire to the vehicles with some melting of siding on the condo unit.  Crews from Engine 1 assisted with manpower and water supply.  The Fire is currently under investigation through Carver PD and the Fire Marshall's Office. ...

Company’s 1 and 3 were dispatched to a brush fire off of Cross Street in our District 1.  A small rekindled permit fire had reignited and was quickly extinguished by crews on Brush Breaker 27.  During the extinguishment the wind suddenly shifted and gave photographer, Deputy Germaine a couple cool shots looking like Breaker 27 was actually on fire, just drift smoke though… (Photo’s by Deputy Eric Germaine)

Company 1 practiced winter ice procedures at their Sunday Drill.  Even though the weather is not producing much ice, CFD Firefighters must stay proficient in proper use of their Ice Rescue Suits, practicing with our Ice Rescue Hovercraft and knowing how to work with divers from the CFD Dive Team.  Company 1 Firefighters also start each training session with a quiz administered by the Company Officers. Our 2020 Recruit Class got off to a great start on Saturday with our new Recruits and the CFD Officers/Instructors getting to know each other on the first day of Recruit Training.  The next three months will be very intense as Deputy Eric Germaine makes the ground rules very clear.  During the first class, the new Recruits spent about an hour on a Recruit Training Orientation followed by having their Accountability photograph taken and then were sized for their Structural...
