Structure Fire – Main Street (Photo’s by Resident, Dawn Mantia) - April 9, 2018

On Monday, April 9, 2018 at 15:23, Carver Fire Company’s 1, 2 and 3 were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of South Main Street.  The initial response were Engines 1, 2, and 4, Rescue 1, Tanker 1, Breakers 27 and 29, Command Cars 1 and 2 and Squad 1.  Chief Officers were on scene within one minute of dispatch with the first arriving Engine Company on scene in under 5 minutes.  Heavy fire conditions were reported throughout the structure and a working fire was declared.  Command requested two additional water Tankers and two additional Engine Company’s to the scene, with an additional Engine Company to cover Station 1 for additional calls.  A total of 47 Carver Officers/Firefighters with the assistance of 15 Mutual Aid Firefighters from Plymouth, Wareham, Middleboro and Plympton worked the fire incident, shuttling water and covering the Town.  A total of 31,000 gallons of water was shuttled into the fire scene from a water supply set up by Carver Engine 2 on Meadow Street.  Carver EMS assisted if treatment was needed for any firefighters, while Carver Police assisted with Traffic control.  The home was built in the 1750’s and was of balloon type construction, making the fire spread through the entire structure.  Firefighters worked feverishly for well over an hour to control the blaze, trying to save the home and belongings.  Crews remained on scene into the night overhauling and working with the State Fire Marshals Office.  The cause is considered accidental, but is still under investigation.  The home belongs our Retired Dispatcher/Active Firefighter who lost everything in the fire.  We are working with their family to assist in any way possible and get them back on their feet.  Please keep our fellow Firefighter and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they try to recover from this tragedy.  We are in the process of setting up a GoFundMe page to assist with relief efforts for one of our own.
