We lost “A VERY GOOD JAKE” on October 25, 2018. Captain Bob Telless - "Very sad day for the Department today, last night Firefighter Joe Peck passed away. I have had the honor and pleasure to know, play and work with Joe since we were both eight, it has always amazed me the grit, determination and tireless effort that Joe put into life. He was always smiling, and I can honestly say I never ever heard him say a bad word...
During the month of November all CFD Company’s focused on Chimney Fires as their monthly drill topic. Our new Training Facility was designed to include a Chimney Fire Prop. Firefighters can start a small smoldering fire in the lined fireplace on the first floor, while crews extend ladders to the roof, lowering a chimney fire line through the built in flue, clearing obstacles and extinguishing the fire. Secondarily fire crews use thermal imagers inside the building to check for any...
Carver Fire Safety Officer, Bob Telless successfully put together a DOT Driving exercise, for all CFD Freighters, held at our new Training Facility. Captain Telless worked very hard in putting together a classroom presentation, which included a driving video, PowerPoint training lecture and practical driving stations, designed according to DOT standards. Each driving station was supervised by an Officer or a senior Firefighter, calculating points and keeping time. Firefighters used an Engine, Breaker, Tanker, Rescue and a Dive Rescue to...
Our Dive Team was hard at work refining there newly learned skills this past weekend. It is imperative that both our line tenders and divers be on the same page and practice working together on a regular basis. Neither the tender nor diver can see each other, so all commands have to be done utilizing rope signals and underwater communication systems. (Photo's by Retired Chief, Bill Harriman)
Company 2 got their turn at the Deputy’s Structure Fire drill this past Sunday morning. Crews got to train realistically, with live fire burns in multiple rooms, real time vertical ventilation, and zero visibility search and rescue evolutions, all occurring simultaneously. Every time a CFD firefighter can hone their live fire skills working under real fire conditions, raises our firefighters confidence when they are working the real thing! Our annual “experienced firefighters” night, is a great time to honor our 25+ year veterans of CFD. Over 70 retired members as well as special invited guests joined active firefighters for an appreciation dinner, while special awards are presented. The highlight of the evening was active Firefighters Bob Middendorf and Dave Buker along with retired Lieutenants Alan Dunham and Mark Moran receiving their 25 year Life Member Awards from the Carver Firefighters Association. An engraved brick with each of their...

Our 2nd annual Movie Night was considered a success! We had about 25 CFD Children attend the event. All were treated to a unbelievable candy table set up by Lisa Boyle, homemade popcorn, movie trivia games with prizes and of course the movie “INCREDIBLES”. It was a great night and we will definitely do it again next year! (Photo’s by our Comma Lady)
From all accounts, our CFD sanctioned scavenger hunt was once again a huge success! This was a competitive training exercise we termed a scavenger hunt. The goal of the event/exercise has always been geared to mixing training, competitiveness, a fun time and great prizes into a series of five training exercises that would involve CFD equipment, apparatus and the skills of our Firefighters. Approximately 35 Firefighters participated in the event. Company 2, named “Water Supply”, finished all their tasks the...

What a fantastic time and great turnout at Carver's Night Out last night. A great job organizing by Carver Police and help from our Firefighters made for a great evening! There were a lot of positive comments from the public in regards to our Public safety Departments. You all must be pretty tired, I know I am as I was dunked about a 1,000 times in the dunk tank. Pay back is certainly coming for all those that had fun...
Amazing to see the Pride our Firefighters take in their apparatus! This is the 12th year of our Apparatus Competition. This year, crews focused on our three Front Line Engines, Pierce Impel PUC’s, purchased in 2016. The winner of this year’s competition was Engine 3, detailed by Company 3. Crews working on Engine 1 and 2 weren’t that far behind. Crews spent days buffing our scratches, cleaning all tools, cleaning interior compartments, cabs were reorganized and cleaned, and the Maxim...

CFD Companies 1, 2, and 3 responded to a structure fire on Adams Circle in South Carver. Upon arrival, (within 2 minutes) Lieutenant Bogart (303) assumed Command with a large mobile home fully involved and a vehicle in the driveway. Crews from first due Engine 3 worked quickly to knock down the heavy fire from the exterior and then performed a primary search of the building, thinking the homeowner might still be inside. With no occupants found, defensive operations were...
Breakers 23, 27, and 28, along with Engine 2 and Squad 1 participated in 4th of July Parades in Plymouth and Duxbury. Crews spent the entire week getting the rigs parade detail ready. Their “PRIDE” in our apparatus really shows! (Photo’s by Assistant Deputy Chief, Jesse Boyle)
Our 54th Carver Firefighter Association Clambake was a success! For those that are not familiar, an old fashioned New England rock clambake is the annual fundraiser for the Carver Firefighters Association. The proceeds from the bake support scholarships, church donations, purchase training materials, as well as other endeavors which benefit the community. Preparing, cooking, and serving; clams, fish, onions, white potato, sweet potato, stuffing, hot dogs, sausage, corn and of course watermelon to feed 400 people is no easy task....

Our Fire Officer core worked together to create a combined Company 1 and 2 MVA Entrapment Drill this past Sunday. The main training topic was Motor Vehicle Accidents involving people trapped. Having to train a large group of firefighters is no easy task, so the drill was divided up into four training stations. There were two MVA stations where Firefighters used Jaws of Life Tools to systematically remove the doors, windows and roofs of two separate vehicles, freeing manikin occupants...

Fire crews did a little bite of Horse Rescuing this past week... Horses aren't normally in our job description, but when a person or even an animal calls for help, we go! This horse, who shall remain nameless, is 36 years old and somehow took a fall in her stall overnight. After being exhausted, she just couldn't get her footing and became trapped in a narrow barn doorway. Firefighters worked to make the door way twice as wide and then...
Our Recruit Trainers go above and beyond in teaching our newest Firefighters proper fire pump operations. Firefighters got a chance to operate our new front line Engines, a Brush Breaker and a Tanker, pumping in realistic operational scenarios. Learning how to draft water out of our portable pools is a must when you become a firefighter in Carver. Our new Training Facility with onsite pressurized hydrants and great lighting helped take everything to the next level. Great job TEAM! (Photo’s...
On Tuesday night, our Recruit Instructors and some loyal helpers put on an awesome Wildfire class for our new Firefighters. Normally, the recruit training wildfire class is held as a classroom setting, but in recent years it has been a bigger hit to load up all our recruits on three Brush Breakers and travel the woods. Breakers 27, 28 and 29 participated in the exercise, as a rolling wildfire class took place in the rear of each breaker. Our new...
Our new Recruit Firefighters put their recently learned classroom knowledge to work at an MVA rescue practical at our Training Facility. Two donated vehicles were on hand, allowing our Recruit Instructors to guide our new Firefighters through the process of using the Jaws of Life, air bags and specialized rescue tools to free simulated trapped occupants. In addition, Carver EMS brought over an Ambulance for our new Firefighters to become more familiar with. (Photo’s by Firefighter Steve Falconer)

Chief Weston and Deputy Germaine designed an interesting Officer Management Drill utilizing a realistic fire scenario program we discovered on-line. The program allows you to take photographs of buildings or items within your community from all angles, add realistic changing smoke and fire conditions and assemble them into a movie like fire scenario that can be stopped or progressed as you wish. At our Officers Incident Command Drill, we conducted two scenarios, one of a commercial establishment in North Carver...
With the Ice starting to melt, Company 1 took time to practice Ice Rescue Training at their most recent drill. Firefighters got a chance to practice wearing our Mustang Ice Survival suits under icy conditions, simulating the rescue of a person in distress. Ice rescue suits are always at the ready on every Carver Engine, Rescue and in all Command Cars. (Photo’s by Lieutenant Danny Wilcox)
Carver Fire Dive Team Members, under the careful instructions of Dive Master Austin White and new Assistant Dive Master John O'Connell, geared up for Ice Dive scenarios at John's Pond. Diving under the ice is extremely dangerous, but our Dive Team must be proficient in their skills if needed to rescue someone who has fallen below the ice. All safety precautions are in place for these technical dives. Divers utilize safety ropes, underwater communications systems, and full face masks. A...
