Recruit Training Class #11 was Ladders and Ventilation (Practical). During this practical course our new Firefighters are taught different ladder raises and carries by our experienced group of Recruit Trainers. The class is then split into two groups, with half practicing ladders and the other half concentrating on hydraulic, mechanical, and roof ventilation using our training building and one of the roof-cut props (Blizzard snow storm did help here…) What a tremendous value to being able to have our new...

Company One conducted their February cold water/Ice drill last Sunday, where they refined their ice rescue skills utilizing our "Rescue Alive Sleds" among other topics, which included water supply ice operations. As you can imagine, winter water supply when ice is present on our waterways can be extremely challenging. The ice augers, chainsaws, and coldwater exposure suits certainly got a workout! Hats off to our Officers for coordinating a great drill! (Photo’s by Firefighter, Danny Wilcox)
What a great training class our new Firefighters were treated to on Saturday. Our Instructors used their imagination in creating two separate Rescue/Maze training scenarios in the Training Building. Our new Firefighters were divided up into two stations. One group worked in the new maze room, another group worked search and rescue scenarios. Great class! Our new Firefighters reviewed Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in class this week. Firefighters got familiar with weekly SCBA checks and learned the do’s and don’ts of their PPE gear. Next class (Outdoor Practical) they will use their knowledge in the field, as live search and rescue practical scenarios will be conducted in our Training Facility. Carver Firefighters responded to a second alarm fire in Kingston today. C3 and Engine 1 with a crew of 6 were assigned as the Rapid Intervention Team, which is specifically for the purpose of rescuing firefighters if something goes wrong inside the fire building. Despite having multiple frozen hydrants, Kingston Fire quickly brought the fire under control. Although nobody was home at the time, it saddens us to report that multiple pets passed away in the fire. (Photo's by Future...
