On Thursday night, our Recruit Instructors and some loyal helpers put on an awesome Wildfire class for our new Firefighters. Normally, the recruit training wildfire class is held as a classroom setting, but in recent years it has been a bigger hit to load up all our recruits on Brush Breakers and travel the woods. Breakers 26 and 27 participated in the exercise, as a rolling wildfire class took place in the rear of each breaker. Our new Firefighters got...

Our new Recruit Firefighters put their recently learned classroom knowledge to work at an MVA rescue practical at our Training Facility. Using a donated vehicle our Recruit Instructors guided our new Firefighters through the process of using the Jaws of Life, air bags and specialized rescue tools to free simulated trapped occupants. Each time a firefighter can practice simulated rescues under a controlled environment, makes them more proficient during the real emergency! (Photo's by Retired Firefighter, Rick Leopardi)

Our Recruit Trainers go above and beyond in teaching our newest Firefighters proper fire pump, fire hoses and stream operations. Our CFD Divers conducted underwater ice dives this past weekend. Diving under the ice is extremely dangerous, but our Dive Team must be proficient in their skills if needed to rescue someone who has fallen below the ice. All safety precautions are in place for these technical dives. Divers utilize safety ropes, underwater communications systems, and full face masks. A rescue diver is always at the ready to assist if something goes wrong while the diver is under the ice....
Recruit Training Class #11 was Ladders and Ventilation (Practical). During this practical course our new Firefighters are taught different ladder raises and carries by our experienced group of Recruit Trainers. The class is then split into two groups, with half practicing ladders and the other half concentrating on hydraulic, mechanical, and roof ventilation using our training building and one of the roof-cut props. What a tremendous value to being able to have our new Firefighters practice real life scenarios under...
