Our annual “experienced firefighters” night, is a great time to honor our 25+ year veterans of CFD. Over 80 retired members as well as special invited guests joined active firefighters for an appreciation dinner, while special awards are presented. The highlight of the evening was active Captain William Froehlich and Firefighter Joe Kirk receiving their 25 year Life Member Awards from the Carver Firefighters Association and 25 year Service Pins from Chief Weston. An engraved brick with each of their...
The CFD Honor Guard returned to Fenway Park this past Sunday, presenting the colors for the World Series Champions, the Boston Red Sox! You can’t help but feel very proud! Your Honor Guard works very hard behind the scenes, giving a lot of time to practice, so when they are called upon, they represent us at the highest level. It was great to see the crew get treated like celebrities! Our Honor Guard last visited the park in October, 2017. ...
Our Fire Muster team sure had a good time at the Swansea Fire Muster this past weekend. Crews managed to take home a third place victory in the Dry Hose event and fourth place in the overall competition. Although it was a competitive day, it was more about just having a good time! The crew is already eager to compete in future muster competitions.
Carver Fire, Police and EMS responded to a crash at the intersection of Gate and High Street last night. Initial reports stated that a car struck and snapped a utility pole, with the driver trapped in the car and live wires on top of the vehicle. Fire crews worked with Carver Police and Carver EMS to quickly and efficiently stabilize the overturned vehicle, and extract the occupant using the Jaws of Life. The patient was transported to a local trauma center. ...
Last night Company 3 drilled on water supply operations. To put it simply, these operations require three basic components. Picking up the water, delivering the water, and then pumping the water to the fire. Although that may sound like a simple set of tasks, remember that Carver does not have fire hydrants. There are many moving parts to maintaining adequate water supply for fires, and members must constantly train on all of the different variables that go into creating a...
Carver Firefighters made quick work of a roadside brush fire on the Carver-Middleborough town line. Carver brushbreakers respond to all outside fires. They each carry 750 gallons of water, and are equipped with pump and roll capabilities. This means the truck can drive and pump water at the same time, a critical feature of a forest fire truck. Firefighters have the options to pull long hoses into the woods, or operate from short hoses without leaving the apparatus. (Photo's by...
CFD Dive Team congratulates firefighters Christopher Mahoney, Christine Amaral, and Kevin Wilson for achieving certified open water diver status. This is the first step in the long journey to earning the status of Public Safety Divers. They are now certified Public Safety Tenders. Well done!
It’s a beautiful night for fireworks! CFD is in Wareham assisting Onset Fire for their annual fireworks display.
Our 55th Carver Firefighter Association Clambake was success! For those that are not familiar, an old fashioned New England rock clambake is the annual fundraiser for the Carver Firefighters Association. The proceeds from the bake support scholarships, church donations, purchase training materials, as well as other endeavors which benefit the community. Preparing, cooking, and serving; clams, fish, onions, white potato, sweet potato, stuffing, hot dogs, sausage, corn and of course watermelon to feed 400 people is no easy task. But...
Carver Firefighters from Company 1 participate in a realistic MVA training exercise at the Fire Department Training Facility. Firefighters used hydraulic spreaders, cutters, rams and a lot of creativity to remove three training manikins from a staged two-car motor vehicle accident involving a minivan.

On Tuesday night, our Recruit Instructors and some loyal helpers put on an awesome Wildfire class for our new Firefighters. Normally, the recruit training wildfire class is held as a classroom setting, but in recent years it has been a bigger hit to load up all our recruits on three Brush Breakers and travel the woods. Breakers 27 and 28 participated in the exercise, as a rolling wildfire class took place in the rear of each breaker. Our new Firefighters...

Each ensemble included turnout coat and pants, fire boots, helmet, gloves, wildland fire coats and pants, and miscellaneous accessories. Our existing turnouts were over 10 years old and had exceeded their useful life. The tradition at Carver Fire is to form a committee of firefighters to make design and purchase decisions for large capital projects such as this, as well as...

(Photo’s by Assistant Deputy Chief, Jesse Boyle)

Amazing what great Trainers, a modern Training Facility and an exceptional Recruit Training class can accomplish! Class #10 was Ventilation and Fire Control. Our new Recruits were split into groups by the instructors and helpers. What a tremendous value to being able to have our new Firefighters practice real life scenarios under one roof in our own...

What a great training class our new Firefighters were treated to on Saturday. Our Instructors used their imagination in creating two separate Rescue/Maze training scenarios in the new Training Building. Our new Firefighters were divided up into two stations. One group worked in the new maze room, another group worked 1st and 2nd floor search and rescue scenarios. The building was pumping out smoke all morning long with our new firefighters seeming to love every minute of it. Great class!...
Our new Firefighters reviewed Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in class this week. Firefighters got familiar with weekly SCBA checks and learned the do’s and don’ts of their PPE gear. Next class (Outdoor Practical) they will use their knowledge in the field, as live search and rescue practical scenarios will be conducted in our new Training Facility. (Photo's by Firefighter Steve Falconer)
Firefighters from Company 3 utilized Engine 3, Breaker 28, Rescue 2 and our Hovercraft to review winter fire operations and winter ice rescues.
